replication deficient retrovirus injected into the dentate gyrus on postnatal day 7 (P7). Since this can only be taken up by actively dividing cells, the neurons are 21 days old, as the mice are perfused on P28. So the mouse is 28 days old, but the reconstructed neurons are 21 days old.
